We know this, we’re not meant to be ๐˜€๐˜„๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ผ๐—ป all the time. We tell our patients this, we learn this at uni, we all know this on a purely intellectual level.

Yet, when it comes to our own lives, it becomes so difficult to practice what we preach.

  1. Make time for a 5 minute meditation either before you leave work or while still in the car when you arrive home. Honouring the transition from work to home can make the difference between allow your mind to ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ท๐˜ฆ ๐˜ธ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฌ ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ธ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฌ or bringing it all home with you.
  2. Seek out professional supervision/support. This can be in what ever form suits you- GP, psychologist, counsellor, supervisor, mentor, peer support (group or 1:1) or Balint group. Make it a priority in your life to bring in an objective third party to help you to process the often demanding ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ง๐˜ง that we are forced to deal with as part of our work.
  3. Normalise asking for help. Doctors are people too, we all deserve the same access to support, care and understanding that we give our patients. The more we all start talking about this, the more our shared humanity is celebrated.
  4. I know we’re biased… but we’ve got to also say… ๐—ท๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐˜‚๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜€!

Calm is what we specialise in.
We have intentionally carved out the time and space in which to support you to slowly and gently come to rest.

You don’t need to do it alone, stillness can initially feel uncomfortable to those of us who are so used to constantly being ๐˜€๐˜„๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ผ๐—ป. That’s what we’re here for.
