What is wellness centred leadership?

Leaders of today need more than to simply direct their teams and people in performing their work. They must respond to the increasing complexities and demands of the modern world that not only their people, but also they themselves face. A wellness centred leader is one who has the ability, skills and capacity to respond dynamically in the face of these competing upward and downward pressures while maintaining their own wellbeing and leading their teams through resonance.

An investment in Wellness Centred Leadership by organisations is an acknowledgement of the importance of wellbeing not just for teams but also for the people who lead them. It represents a commitment to both the personal and professional growth of your leaders on the explicit understanding that it is impossible to separate these two elements within an individual- that a leader who is supported to continually nurture their sense of mindful self awareness, will in turn lead more mindful and self aware teams.

How does coaching benefit healthcare leaders?

Coaching requires participants to reflect on their leadership shadow and potential, thus taking ownership of any behavioural, emotional and mindset changes required. In a group setting, coaching presents a unique opportunity to learn both from and with the group, drawing upon the wisdom of your colleagues and enriched with expert group facilitation. Throughout the retreat attendees will have the opportunity to experience various forms of both group and individalised coaching with the option of further engagement after the conclusion of the retreat.

Whole Hearted Medicine is proud to collaborate with Capstan Partners who advocate for coaching programs that support a journey into self-awareness, reflecting on individual skills, feelings, attitudes and behaviours required for effective leadership and providing a supportive space for change.

The retreat

The immersive nature of this retreat is designed specifically to answer to the unique needs of healthcare leaders. In order to get the most out of this experience, we suggest that only those who are already in (or imminently entering) leadership roles attend this particular retreat. Over 4 days participants will be supported to develop not only their skills in leadership of others, but also their own skills of interoception & self care. Allowing them to lead not just by words but also by action and resonance. Through a structured program of educational seminars, interactive workshops, supported reflective practice, 1:1 executive coaching and guided stress management sessions the intention is to provide time for reflection on not only workplace performance and leadership but also on general health and wellbeing in all doctors who attend.

The location

Looking out over the beautiful rolling green hills of far northern NSW coast you will feel buoyed by the light and airy feel of stunning SOMA Byron. As you slow down the pace of life and gently allow your body to come to rest we'll explore how to create space for ourselves in our own busy, medical lives. Through our expertly led and CPD approved educational program covering mindfulness, meditation, communication skills, compassionate boundaries and self care- we will guide to finding your flow and spark. The you behind the doctor.

While all Whole Hearted Medicine retreats focus heavily on guiding you towards mindful and sustainable self care in the busy world of medicine, this particular retreat does this with an emphasis on supporting you to fulfil your complete potential as a leader. Educational talks are held in the geodesic dome where possible with the towering giant bamboo providing a beautiful natural backdrop for meditations and reflections to create a rich sensory experience.
