Edge of the Bay Retreat

Tasmania

Edge of the Bay retreat information

The Retreat

This retreat offers a gentle yet powerful introduction to mindfulness, self-compassion, and embodiment, specifically tailored for doctors. It provides a steady framework for building emotional awareness, nervous system regulation, and practical tools for navigating the demands of medical life.

Designed as a restorative and skills-based experience, the Mindfulness and Wellbeing Retreat supports participants to reconnect with their own needs- without guilt- and to begin integrating daily practices that protect against burnout and enhance presence in clinical care.

No prior experience with mindfulness is required. This retreat is ideal for doctors at any career stage who are seeking space to pause, reflect, and develop sustainable ways to care for themselves as they care for others.

While all Whole Hearted Medicine retreats guide doctors towards mindful, sustainable self-care and inspired leadership, this retreat places a special emphasis on connection- to nature, to self, and to others who share your commitment to leading well. Educational sessions are held in light-filled spaces overlooking the bay, where the ever-changing sea and sky become companions to your learning and reflection.

Mornings may begin with gentle movement or beachside mindfulness practice, followed by expertly facilitated CPD-accredited workshops exploring emotional regulation, compassionate self reflection, and building a sustainable framework for self care. Afternoons allow for unhurried walks along white-sand beaches or quiet moments in the gardens, before gathering again to integrate insights into your wellbeing vision.

At the Edge of the Bay, you are not only learning new skills- you are living them. This is wellbeing education in its purest form: grounded, connected, and inspired by the beauty and stillness of the natural world.

The Location

Framed by the pristine coastline of Tasmania’s Freycinet Peninsula, Edge of the Bay Lodge offers sweeping views of the Hazards mountains and turquoise waters that invite you to pause, breathe, and be fully present. Here, nature’s rhythms set the pace- quiet mornings by the shore, the soft soundtrack of waves, and the endless horizon creating space for reflection and renewal.

The accommodation at Edge of the Bay Lodge blends understated luxury with the raw beauty of its surroundings. Each private cabin is thoughtfully positioned to capture uninterrupted views of the Hazards mountain range and the sapphire waters of Great Oyster Bay. Floor-to-ceiling windows invite the outside in, filling your space with soft natural light and a constant connection to the landscape.

Inside, the interiors are warm and contemporary, with natural timbers, soft linens, and spacious layouts that echo the calm of the coastline. Private decks offer a secluded spot for your morning coffee as the sun rises over the bay, or a quiet place to watch the changing colours of the mountains in the late afternoon light.

Every detail is designed for rest and reflection- crisp, comfortable bedding; generous bathrooms; and sitting areas perfect for journalling or simply watching the tide. The gentle soundtrack of waves and bird calls replaces the noise of daily life, creating an environment where your body and mind can truly slow down.

From your cabin, a short wander brings you to the water’s edge, to secluded beaches and walking trails that weave through the coastal landscape. Here, you are not just staying by the ocean, you are part of it, immersed in a place where the boundaries between comfort, nature, and inspiration fade away.

  • Getting There

Edge of the Bay is located on Tasmania’s east coast, just outside Coles Bay and right on the doorstep of Freycinet National Park. The resort sits approximately 2.5 hours’ drive from Hobart or 2 hours from Launceston, making it easily accessible by car from either of Tasmania’s major airports.

If driving from Hobart, take the Tasman Highway (A3) through scenic wine country and coastal farmland. From Launceston, the journey follows the Midlands Highway (A1) before joining the Lake Leake Highway (B34) east towards the coast. Clear signage will guide you into Coles Bay and on to Edge of the Bay, which is situated just beyond the township on a quiet stretch of coastline with panoramic views of the Hazards mountains.

This is a remote and peaceful location with no public transport or ride share options operating in the area. Self-driving is the recommended way to reach the resort, particularly if you would like the flexibility to explore the surrounding national park or beaches during your free time. Free parking is available on-site for all guests.

If you prefer not to drive, private transfers can be arranged from Hobart or Launceston through local operators. For assistance coordinating this, please feel free to contact the resort directly.
